Training for bouncy Puppies

Overview

Cooper started classes at the Blue Cross in Ipswich in March. Over the weeks he has been attending classes his ability to check in with his people and focus on what he is doing in class has improved infinitely. In the first week in particular he was very distracted by the environment, which is more than understandable considering he came to his people at around 1 year of age and it is unknown how much training or experience of the world he had prior to that. His people have said that they are over the moon with his progress and that he has improved so much over the past couple of months. We look forward to being part of his future successes and awarding him with his well-earned Bronze certificate!

Process

Cooper has been attending classes at our Blue Cross site in Ipswich. Being an outdoor venue, Cooper has worked on a range of behaviours around dogs, people, wildlife and other distractions. Some of the behaviours we have covered in classes include:

Checking in with his people.
Loose lead walking.
Recall.
Emergency stop.
Hand touches.
Impulse control.
General cues such as sit, down and stay.
A wide range of fun tricks that help to build the human-dog bond, but can also be used in real life situations, such as vet visits, or when handling at home.

Result

In his first sessions, Cooper was very interested in the environment and his people had to work hard to get his focus and complete the exercises in class. Fast forward a few weeks and Cooper has shown fantastic improvement. He is able to walk on a loose lead, offers regular check-ins, and recalls out on walks. Overall, Cooper is calmer within a class environment and is much less distracted by neighbouring dogs and people. It is very clear to see that his people have put in the hard work and effort outside of classes, which is no doubt a huge component of how much he has improved. Well done to Cooper and his people, such amazing results and a lovely team to have in classes!
