What is the training for?

Want to get the best out of your dog, and see them enjoy the thing they love to do best? Want to learn a new skill for you and your dog? Love working with your dog and doing fun activities together? Look no further.......

This 3 part scent detection workshop will teach you and your dog some fun new skills you can use for the rest of their lives. Scent work is ideal for every dog of every life stage, ranging from puppies to old age dogs! Scent work is stimulating and calming for your puppy or dog.

During this 3 part class you will learn: (3 x 1hr and 20 min classes)

• How to train your dog to a scent
• How to train your dog to identify the scent in multiple scenarios
• How to train your dog to indicate they have found a scent
• How to undertake operational searches of premises or places
• Scent discrimination
• Systematic search techniques
• Environmental searches
• How to support your dog through an operational search

Classes are taught by Zoe Willingham, who is a qualified Scent Detection Instructor, through the UK College of Scent Detection. Zoe has been trained and assessed by Operational Scent handlers and instructors from the Metropolitan Police, elite firearms support dog unit and medical detection dogs to name a few.

The course runs over 3 dates allowing time in between to train and perfect the learnings from each class.

What to bring to class:

• Flat collar or harness (Choke chains, prong collars are not permitted)
• Standard lead (not extendable)
• Lots of yummy treats cut into small pieces. Thinly sliced hot dogs are great for training
• Poo bags
• Please bring your dogs vaccination certificate to the first session you attend or email a copy to [email protected]
• Please dress for the weather conditions, to ensure you and your dog are comfortable throughout the session. We train in all weathers. REMEMBER, there’s no such thing as bad weather, just the wrong clothes!!!!!!

Water and water bowls are provided, but if your dog prefers their own please feel free to bring that as well. We recommend not feeding a morning meal, or at least reducing it, as the training is reward based and their tummy’s will fill up quickly!!!

Payment of fees should be made at the time of placing a booking. Failure to make payment will result in the booking being cancelled.
