It’s National Peanut Butter Day, so we thought we would share some ideas for fun ways to treat your pups to this tasty treat! (Always remember to feed peanut butter in moderation, and make sure that it doesn’t contain xylitol – sometimes listed as birch sugar in ingredient lists – as this is dangerous for our dogs!)
PB & Banana Cookies
Peanut butter is a popular ingredient in homemade dog biscuits! This yummy flavour combo is perfect for making quick, easy homemade snacks to treat your pooch. A quick google will offer up lots of simple recipes, such as this one.
There are a range of awesome dog toys and interactive feeders out there which you can use for this kind of activity, but you can’t go wrong with the classic Kong! Simply spread some peanut butter around the inside of the Kong to provide a fun challenge for your pup. You can even combine this with other extras like dog-safe berries (e.g., blueberries or strawberries), kibble, yoghurt and more! If you google search “Kong peanut butter recipes” you will find a wealth of creative ideas to help you fill a Kong to the brim with goodies!
Just like with a Kong, you can get creative while loading up the Lickimat! Using a combo of peanut butter, yoghurt, fresh fruit and veggies and more, you can create a fun array of flavours for your dog to discover. You can even pop your Lickimat in the freezer, so it lasts your dog a bit longer.
A no-bake alternative to homemade cookies and a great option especially during the summer months! Check out these fun recipe ideas, here.
Tupperware Treasure Hunt
This is a great way to engage with your dog, giving them a chance to use that incredible nose of theirs while hanging out together! Pop some peanut butter in a Tupperware tub and make a hole in the lead, then hide is somewhere in the house. Take your dog around the room encouraging them to find it – when they do, celebrate by taking the lid off the tub and letting them lick their yummy reward!
